Discoveries:

Today I discovered that it might be time to take a road trip. It’s something magical about gassing up the sedan, packing the cooler and hitting the open highway. That combination of changing landscape, warm summer wind blowing in your face and the unknown excites me. Perhaps the mystique is in the conversations that ensue about career, love, hardship and life that make the confined time special. Each passing mile is an opportunity to conquer a small piece of yourself. The longer the drive the more time you have to think and the more obstacles you can overcome. I plan to see the Midwest this time around; I have been intrigued by St. Louis lately. Maybe I’ll drive up, tour the Arch, catch a Cardinals game, visit a museum and get me some soul food from Sweetie Pies. Missouri here I come.

High Points:

Do you remember 1994’s Jason’s Lyric? You know, the urban love story starring Jada Pinkett-Smith, Allen Payne and Bokeem Woodbine with guest appearances by Treach from Naughty by Nature and Eddie Griffin. For its time, Jason’s Lyric was one of the greatest romance films created. The film taught us about the struggle people face when they try to love each other. Aside from the gritty realism that the city of Houston provided as the backdrop for the romance, this classic boy meets girl tale hit home in so many ways.  We got a glimpse of the poverty, crime and struggle of urban life. We saw the effects of alcoholism on families (Maddog); we saw how fatherless homes can force young boys to grow into young men faster than they need to. Most importantly, we saw how true love is at times tested by outside influences. Go take a trip down memory lane and watch this hood classic. Big shout out to Sean Hutchinson, he played young Jason. We actually went to the same grade school and played on the basketball team together. It’s been too long.

Low Points:

I almost caught the fever, gambling fever. I take risks but have learned the hard way that wagering money, especially on a regular basis is bad. As much as I would love to say that I didn’t enjoy gaining VIP status in Harrah’s properties that would be a lie. When you’re showered with free hotel rooms, comps and tickets you feel special. Add in the feeling you get when you double, triple or quadruple your money in a few hours and it can be a recipe for disaster. Even if you win, you lose. You forfeit time. There’s a reason why there are no clocks inside of casinos.
DAILY INSANITY:

Three Words: Lazy Sunday Mornings
The best relaxing happens on Sunday mornings between the hours of 7am-11am. I love cuddling up with my wife and kids and chillaxing on my bed.
