This week I discovered that
knee problems can wreak havoc on your personal life. For the last five years I
have been dealing with what most people would consider a serious issue. I’d go
for a jog or come home from a pickup basketball game at the gym and realize
that both of my knees were swollen. Grant it, I do have some pretty fly moves
on the court but I’m no Derrick Rose. Or am I? All of those years of darting
and jab stepping finally caught up to me. I went to see a specialist
immediately for fear that there could be a severe issue. After multiple visits,
x-rays and consultation it turns out that I have premature arthritis in both
knees as well as knee effusion or more commonly referred to as water on the
knees. Water on the knee may be the result of trauma, overuse injuries, or an
underlying disease or condition. We determined the cause: overuse (go figure)
and decided that the best treatment was to extract fluid (for relief), inject cortisone
to reduce swelling and then send the sample off to test for osteoarthritis,
gout or none of the above. Removing some of the fluid helped reduce the pain
and stiffness and now after 2 days, I feel amazing. There are no serious
illnesses or post-procedure challenges. I’m a new man. Now who’s got next on
the basketball court?
UTTERLY AWESOME LINK-OF-THE-WEEK
High Points:
Summer is officially here!
Memorial Day has passed and the warm weather is upon us. Grills will get lit,
pools will open and vacationing will begin. I am excited about this year’s
summer. Dallas has improved several of the parks and recreational areas, my
hometown of Chicago features the best summer festivals and activities plus
there are a handful of cities nearby which offer a diverse experience for the
thrill seekers. The state of Arkansas is the Natural state with trails, hot
springs and lakes. Missouri has Branson, the caverns and a number of B&B’s
with rave reviews. I’m ready, are you? .

My son will not graduate!
Before you get all bent out of shape let me assure you that he’s a phenomenal
student. He receives A’s and B’s, he’s been on the football, basketball and track
teams. He plays the violin in orchestra and has great friends. But in my city
and in most cities in the state of Texas the public school system DOES NOT
produce or create a graduation ceremony. They basically pat the kids on the
back, give them a diploma and send them off to high school. Somehow that just
doesn’t seem fair. Where I grew up the 8th grade graduation was a
big deal. You were becoming a young adult and heading off to high school.
Although they school system will not celebrate my son’s accomplishment, I will.
I’m thinking hotel room and summer pool party? Hmmm……
DAILY INSANITY:
Three Words: Trim Your Hedges
Metaphorically speaking, why is it considered unacceptable when the bushes and shrubs which surround your yard to be unkempt but when our, ummmm,,,, personal bushes are not groomed no one flinches at it? I realize that everyone is different but since the summer is here and its bikini season I strongly suggest you keep your grass cut and trees trimmed. That is all.
