Discoveries:
This week I discovered that
to do it all you must give your all. For the last week I have been Mr. Mom. My
wife has been out of town handling family and career business for a couple of weeks so it’s just been
me and the boys. Unlike deadbeat dads, I enjoy being a father and I have a
great time with my children. I talk with them and feel blessed to have established
relationships with them as individuals. For instance, I know that my teenager
(yes, teenager) likes video editing and hanging out with his friends at Starbucks.
He wants to go to college in Florida and his favorite food in the world is a
close tie between mac n’ cheese and teriyaki noodles. My six year old loves the
Minecraft game, he believes dressing in high fashion gives him swag and if I want
to really make him happy or reward him after a good deed buy him Lego
blocks or take him to the green store (Dollar Tree) to purchase ring pops or
cheese popcorn.
It’s tough doing it
all on your own but it's worth it. My hat goes off to single parents (like my mother) who do it and did it all
by themselves. The anxiety you feel every day is unreal. You worry whether or
not you left the stove on or if the kids made it to school okay. You wonder if the schoolbus came on time and you hope the school nurse doesn’t need to call you to tell you how your
youngest fell or hurt themselves on the playground. You wonder if you are
giving them enough face time and teaching them enough lessons about right and
wrong so that you can trust them to do the right thing when you're not around. You hope you
don’t get involved in a car accident and get injured because you must pick your
kid up from afterschool care before they close. I could go on and on but I won’t. To
say it plainly, it ain’t easy.
UTTERLY AWESOME

High Points:
I started my new job,
scratch that, my new career. I am officially in the BIG LEAGUES. Nothing
against my old job but it’s clear that moving on was the most strategic way for
me to develop my skillset and earn more money. With more responsibility comes
more perks and fringe benefits. I get to manage my day the way that I feel is
best and most appropriate. I get all kinds of cool new gadgets and even an
expense account to entertain clients. The earning potential is remarkable and I
enjoy the staff I am working alongside. Round of applause for Mr. Executive!
TOP FIVE THINGS EXECUTIVES DO
1. They realize they can
impact their community with what they do
2. They keep their
commitments to the people the respect & love
3. They dress for the occasion
and embrace having great personal style
4. They are visionary
and see the big picture when others can’t
5. They realize that
learning is an infinite process that is ongoing
“"Your first and foremost job as a leader is to take charge of your own
energy and then help to orchestrate the energy of those around you.”
-Peter F. Drucker
Low
Points
No low points this week. My
only regret is that I have yet to find a comfortable pair of Rockports that don’t
cost an arm and a leg. The new casual business attire consists of a polycotton
blend Ralph Lauren polo shirt, easyfit Dockers and leather Rockport uppers.
DAILY INSANITY:
One Word: Blog
Blogs encourage writing and literacy. Plus they help capture memories in a way that photographs can’t. Its one thing to take a picture but it’s another to write about an experience and paint a picture with words. Start a blog today, you won’t regret.
