Discoveries:

Today I discovered that not everyone is fit for fatherhood. It’s a tough job. Aside from the norms that society has placed on us to be super tough, strong, a decent money earner there are a handful of other traits that truly remarkable men possess that makes them excellent fathers. Good dads may be uncertain about what these characteristics are but great fathers do and they have mastered them. In no particular order, here are the qualities that show up in the DNA of men who are fit to be fathers:

·         Character
·         Resilience
·         Loyalty
·         Creativity
·         Endurance
·         Humor
·         Patience
·         Hunger
·         Kindness
·         Leadership

High Points:

My Father’s Day began early with breakfast in Bed on Saturday, hugs and kisses from the family, devotion from my wife and a mystery trip. We ended up at a nail salon and spa, immediately I turned to her in disgust believing her intent was to get her usual mani/pedi but I was wrong. I was actually the one who would be on the receiving end of the spa services. For the first time ever I was pampered by the ladies in the shop. They gave me a massage, a pedicure and a manicure. Jesus Christ, who knew that getting dipped and clipped was that relaxing! OMG I almost fell asleep in the chair like three times. No longer do my fingers and toes look like that of a field workers or wild razorback. It was so special to me because I have never had a pedicure and I can count on one hand the number of times I have had a manicure. What a great gift. The element of surprise is my wife’s specialty. We then went to an antique shop and took a trip down memory lane where I saw oldies but goodies like the Slip N’ Slide, real Tiffany lamps, fine oak bureau’s secretary’s and dining room table and best of all music. I found a rare vinyl record of Handel’s Messiah and a greatest compositions album from Tchaikovsky. There’s more to come too. We spent the rest of the night watching movies and embracing relax mode….I can’t wait to see what’s next!

Low Points:

Lately I have been doing a poor job of scheduling time. For example, On Thursday I set an appointment to meet with a client in Dallas but I set another conference call for the same time. On Friday, I promised my son that we’d go swimming in the pool at the fitness gym we belong to but we got there too late and it closed on us. Then on Saturday, I bought grocery bags full of healthy snacks thinking that the NBA Finals were going to be on TV but when I checked the channel guide I found that the game wasn’t until Sunday. What’s going on with me, perhaps I need to slow down or start using a physical planner versus the Outlook version that seems to only work when you are in front of a computer. I salute people who can follow their plans to the “T”.

DAILY INSANITY:
One Word: MaCallan

MaCallan Single Malt Whiskey is arguably one of if not the finest and most storied whiskey’s ever created. Each year I choose three-to-four of my closest friends and we devote one evening to enjoying the fine spirit and celebrating life. The process involved with creating their one-of-a-kind taste is remarkable. I challenge you to visit their website to learn more about them:
