Discoveries:

Today I discovered comedy soothes the soul. I can recall sneaking into the basement to watch VHS Cassettes of stand-up performances from comedic greats like Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, Redd Foxx, Charlie Murphy, Tommy Davidson and Robin Harris. As a preteen, perhaps I shouldn’t have exposed myself to the vulgar language, adult situations and hostility but how was that any different from the expletives and human condition in my neighborhood. We all remember then, those profound street performers. Sometimes comedy came from pain. Doing without forced you to find the brighter side to things. Late payments on bills, having roaches, getting spankings in public and struggle was now being used to uplift rather than pull down. Watching those comedians stand on stage and force light into otherwise dark places helped urban folk cope with bad circumstance. We didn’t feel like we were alone. After them we knew that our friends, other families and our neighbors dealt with the same hardships that we did. Their jokes were like Band-Aids covering the pains of harsh realities that we all faced every day. I salute our comics for helping us get through!

High Points:

I watched my son Tre’ perform with his school band. That dude is awesome; he is the best sequel to me that could have ever been created. The old adage is true! When two great people connect and have a child that child takes the very best parts of you both! Tre has his mother’s mannerisms, forethought, patience and amazing hair and physique. I contributed my breathtaking intellect, piercing eyes, confidence and athletic ability. Wait, he got the athletic ability from us both. Tre’s DNA brew has yielded an amazing young man who is thoughtful, talented, smart and borderline funny. Anyone with kids knows that raising children in this era is harder now than ever. I am so blessed to have him as a son. Go ahead with your bad self. He’s stuntin’ like his daddy, stuntin like his daddy (in Wheezy voice)

Themes for the Day

·         Like father like son

·         Teach him everything you know

·         Men raise boys who become men

·         Let’s go have breakfast and cappuccino’s son

·         Trust me, life will try to whoop you but I’ve got your back!

Low Points:

Okay, gross dialogue coming, let’s talk gas. You know, farting, pooting if you’re bourgeois, breaking wind if you’re shame, passing gas if you’re old school or letting on off if you find comedy in flatulence. Dude, what is it with people of color and dairy products? I swear I am afraid of ice cream, cereal, flavored coffee creamers and anything with cool whip on it. There are dozens of products out there that supposedly help with this annoying problem. Nothing clears out an elevator or kills the mood faster than gas. I am no expert at this but I am compiling a list of foods that support dirty wind’s mission so I can stay away from them. Perhaps there are alternatives; instead of ice cream I’ll have sorbet. Instead of coffee creamer I will choose soy milk, instead of cool whip I will opt for powdered sugar and I’ll pass on the cereal and make myself a bowl of oatmeal. Help me out readers, what are the bubbleguts no-no foods?

DAILY INSANITY:
Two Words: Twenty Years!
If you follow current events you’ll remember a news article about a woman in Florida who was recently handed down a twenty year sentence for firing a gun at her children’s father. Was he killed, no. Shot, no, hurt, nah. However, due to a foolish law created for cowards and noodle-backs she will now spend some of the best years of her life behind bars. I don’t advocate taking matters into your own hands but geez, the penalty doesn’t seem to fit the crime. By the way, it was in the same state as the Treyvon Martin incident. PPS: The same prosecuting attorney’s that tried that same case handled this one. I am staying out of Florida!

Before I became vegan, dairy was starting to give me some issues. It was strange because my entire life I had no issues and would drink a gallon of milk a day. Slight lactose intolerance may have developed over the years. Proud to hear about the relationship you have with your son. Such bonds should be the norm and not the exception within the black community.
