You'd better pay me!

Discoveries:
Today I discovered that I am a damn good Mr. Mom. When required, I cook, I clean, I take the kids to school, I do laundry and pay bills (okay, that’s a lie, the washer and dryer and online bill-pay are off limits for me) and I hold down the house. I feel good knowing that my mother gave me enough home-training (Southern Colloquialism for proper upbringing) to survive this cold world. At an early age my mother and grandmother taught me that a man needed to be able to survive for himself and that he should not have to depend on a woman to do the basics for him. She also taught me that a man can make themselves more marketable to women if they possessed at least a working knowledge of domestics. So thank my mother for turning me into a guy that’s so off tha chain!

High Points:
Yesterday I connected with an old friend and had a long overdue heart-to-heart. We caught up on the last decade of our lives and ended the conversation on a positive note. It’s funny how time passes and becomes a wedge in between you and an acquaintance. Also, for the first time in a long time, I received a telephone call where the caller offered me a job and I was completely honest about asking for what I think I am worth. I envisioned their mouth dropping when I said to them “I believe a fair offer would be considerate of my decade of proven sales experience, penetration in the Texas Commercial Market as well as my management competencies with focuses in Organizational Leadership and Marketing. I am thinking mid to upper 100’S and you?”
What!!!! Get big!!!

Low Points:
The employer giggled at my explication, I was offended. Obviously I priced myself out of the running but nonetheless it felt great. Conversely, I am saddened by the lack of “Blue-Sky_ opportunities where every aspect of the job is in alignment with one’s life. Pay is great, amazing location, flexible schedule, respectable colleagues and opportunity for growth. At least give me 3-out-of-5. People are so indifferent about the economy that they are refusing to spend and employers can now get better people for less. Too bad for us.

Question
What’s the best way to ask for a raise when you really believe you deserve it?

John - I feel ya Darling. I'm sure i just lost a gig for Kodak because I was like for this ....Mama need this...I went over my resume in respect to all the events, PR, marketing, advertising, networking. I had a portfolio of pics from events related to my company as well as other companies I've consulted for. I'm sure they went with the young man who was next to meet, and who appeared to be right out of college. It happens, all the time. However, I stand in my WORTH!!!
