Early Polling

Discoveries:

Today I discovered the phenomenon of the modern poll. Thanks to Facebook I have been soliciting for information and opinions on everything from career advice to bathroom design. Why is it that we are so willing to participate anonymously in a poll with others but we refuse to voice the same opinion as a body of one? I believe it’s because we are superficially inert and dependent on nothing more than the mere option of having a voice. We are the society that wants to be listened to but we don’t want to speak. Polls allow you to speak without saying a word. You get to have a silent opinion (if you will) and all you have to do is choose from a set of options. How convenient? Trouble is, who’s in charge of selecting the options. A better question would be; Don’t you want to choose them yourself?

High Points:
Today I learned how to eat healthier, thanks to the Eat This Not That column in Men’s Health Magazine. The monthly article pits one food against another and takes the time to show you the specific differences between the two foods/meals and addresses healthy lifestyle vitals such as calories, sugars, carbs and saturated fat.  One example shows how replacing iceberg lettuce with spinach for your salads yields more vitamins and nutrients. It also says that if you must have chocolate, avoid white chocolate at all costs and choose dark chocolate. Technically, white chocolate isn't chocolate, it contains no cocoa solids.  In most cases it is also doctored up with tons of sugar. Check out Men’s Health for more EAT THIS NOT THAT ideas.

Themes for the Day

What’s for dinner (that’s healthy?)
Why are carbs bad, and saturated fat and,,,well everything else
Which restaurant serves food that is tasty and still good for your body?
Fresh fruits and raw vegetables are my new idea of fast food!

Low Points:

The NFL lockout is over. That should be a high point but I live in Texas. Today’s sports radio was inundated with nothing but talk about America’s Team. For those of you that don’t know, America’s Team is the silly nickname for the Dallas Cowboys. Grant they have a pretty good squad, a generous owner and arguably the best stadium in all of sports but those guys have failed to deliver to the fans, on so many levels. Let’s talk about a few other teams who deserve the spotlight. How about the Chicago Bears (you knew it was coming) or the Steelers, they should really be America’s Team. When is the last time the Cowboys made the playoffs and won? Let’s move on to one of the other teams in the league, geez Louise!

DAILY INSANITY:
Three Words: Triple Digit Temperature
I’m not complaining but Texas has been 100+ degrees for weeks.

Question
If you could create a poll, what would you ask for opinions on?
