Discoveries:
Today I discovered that I miss how we used to purchase and enjoy our music collection. Everything is digital now. That’s not such a bad thing but remember the good old days? When we used to fill out and send in those tiny postcards from Columbia House or BMG? That was an experience wasn’t it? Those companies knew how to engage their targets. I believe the offer went something like, get 10 CD’s for the price of 1. I took selecting those freebies seriously. I absolutely had to have a Jodeci and Boyz II Men CD, not to mention Aaliyah and R Kelly. Then for Rap what collection would be complete without 2 PAC, Wu Tang and Biggie. With the last three selections I had to be creative, I needed to order something that I could relax to, what else? Anita Baker, thank you very much. Then I needed a jazz CD. Back when I was in college, before I knew about Coltrane or Miles Davis I studied and relaxed to the musical styling’s of Kenny G. Finally, since I was raised in the church, I absolutely couldn’t forget about a gospel disc. There were so many greats that it was impractical trying to narrow that category down to just one artist. The smart choice was to get a compilation disc. I ordered a WOW GOSPEL disc filled with music from all my favorites: Commissioned, John P Key, Donald Lawrence, Daryl Coley, Hezekiah Walker and Kirk Franklin. The last disc, the one you had to pay for, was always the hardest to choose for that very reason. You had to pay for it! I never seemed satisfied with my choice until I stumbled upon a young man who was a few years older than me who man music that was cooler than the other side of the pillow……Maxwell. My collection was complete. Now
High Points:
I was in good spirits today so I took time to poll my fan base asking them to provide the topic that my daily blog would be written about. I was supremely confident that millions of emails would literally clog my inbox thus rendering me helpless in the battle against the heap but sadly that did not occur. Instead, I received (2) suggestions. Yes, two. Funky, little, two. Anyway, the positive news was that the (2) suggestions I received were really good ones. One fan said, “Hey, why not talk about me?” The other said feature a new musical act. So in keeping to my word here goes…..

Low Points:
I’m not gonna lie, I miss Chicago. Besides the fact that the Bulls are winning, the Blackhawks are making a run for the Stanley Cup and the best Pizza, hot dogs, architecture and skylines come from there what I miss most are the people. Chicago should be best known for its people. When you take all of the professionals, politicians, athletes, business owners, artists, students, thugs, cops, city workers, snobs, aristocrats, slumlords and church folk you get an amazing pot of gumbo, metaphorically speaking.
I miss all of the laughs, the venues, the restaurants, the love, the passion, the promise and the unwritten future that may never be because I live in Texas now. Don’t get me wrong, Texas has its own appeal but there’s no place like home. Can somebody order me an Italian beef sandwich or a deep dish pizza from Giordano’s and ship it to me?
DAILY INSANITY:
2 Words – GROW UP
I am so tired of people who expect you to do something for them that they aren’t even willing to do for themselves. Is there a pill you can take that cures that disease?
