Discoveries:
Today I discovered that sometimes the best gifts are experiences. Sure, you can't wear a size nine experience or sit an experience on your shelf like a picture. You can't even bottle it up like champaign and pop it open when you want a little, you can't whip out your credit card and buy an experience nor can you mix a bunch of ingredienmts and bake one up. After thinking about all the gifts I have ever been given, razors, shoes, clothes, jewelry, tiees and even cologne I declare that the best gifts were the gifts that helped me have an experience. Events tickets are a great example, the ticket itself is just a piece of paper but what it represents is what makes it so special. Understand?
High Points:
I took my mom to church. For so many years she was the one leading me towards His Kingdom ushering me into the house of The Lord but not today. She was my guest, I showed her into the building. She visied my church home in Dallas. As a young man I can remember my mom dragging me into the church and practically tossing us in the middle seat in the middle of the row, smack dab right in front of the preacher. I used to despise church, I loved God but couldn't stand being stuck in that loud, hot, colorful building. There were people of all sorts, tall, short, fat, skinny, light, dark, happy, sad, hurting, blessed. At thirteen, what child not annointed with the gift of preaching wanted to be stuck in some church? But I had it all wrong. It was just where I needed to be. Chicago had some mean streets when I was kid, there was no safer place in the universe. What a gift! Today I gave a gift to my mother. Aside from the Chinese food buffet that I sprung for, I gave her the best gift a believer can give to another, I gave her the best gift that a son can give to a mother. Through Sunday service I demonstrated the power of God and delivered on His promise. All of those prayers worked mama! Now I'm taking you to church! Now be quiet and go sit in that middle aisle seat!
Low Points:
I watched more than five hours of television today. Reality shows, movies, sporting events and news. Normally I don't go veggie in for hours on end but today was different. I gathered my snacks which were composed of Cheez-It's, sliced grapefruit, kettle corn and Arizona Watermelon infused sweet tea and I sprawled myself onto the couch. As I munched on delectible goodness I satisfied my fix for HD TV, Movies and sports. What could I have done otherwise with the time, who knows? Maybe I could have completed my search for a foreign luxury sedan in black with less than forty-thousand miles for under twenty grand. Maybe I could have found that pair of Rockport loafers I have been dying to have. I may have even been able to get in a bonus day at the gym and swim some laps. Bump it, I made the right choice.....TV,,,aaaaahhhhhhh America's last great time waster.
Daily Insanity:
Really Bad Movies: There is nothing wose than ordering a movie OnDemand or getting something out of REDBOX only to get home, pop it on the DVD Player (BLU-RAY if you are ballerific) then be disappointed after devoting more two hours of your life to the film. Attention movie studios,,,,if you make great films we will buy tickets to the show!
