Discoveries:
Today I discovered many of my favorite things: Music, writing, great movies, exceptional cuisine, comedy, Vegas, Summertime Chi, beautiful things, competition, basketball, urban influence and single malt MaCallan whiskey just to name a few. I guess it is not really a discovery but a rediscovery. Being snowed in along with most of the country wasn’t such a bad thing. While I missed out on some money I got back time. Time has an intrinsic value. You cannot put a price tag on it. As I sit here in my office, listening to my iTunes playlist I wonder what everyone else is doing or getting into across the country. Isn’t ironic how God can make you sit your tail down and rest when you act too stubborn do rest on your own. I don’t know about you but I will be still and enjoy the day.
High Points:
I used wisdom today. I don’t always listen to that inner voice (even when it’s yelling) but today I did. Against my better judgment and the advice of weathermen across the country I attempted to brave the elements and drive in to work. Mental note; Work is 20 miles away. The conditions were not only icy but they were downright dangerous. I don’t know why men try to defy the laws of physics and the natural order of things. I bundled up, started up the whip and hit the road. Two minutes into the drive I realized that it was the wrong decision. I bussed a U-turn right away and headed back to the tip. Now I don’t know if the devil got made that I outsmarted his arrangement but no sooner than I turned around my car began skidding and sliding across the road. I was calm, I didn’t panic. I remember my Driver’s Ed training from more fifteen years ago. I applied maneuvers, remained calm and drove out of the skid and arrived at my destination (home) unscathed. Thank God for wisdom.
Low Points:
I missed out on the gym. I guess it would have been creepy and eerily peculiar to be the only moron in the gym. Hell, would it even be open. It’s funny how we expect retailers to be open and in business when our business is closed. In fact, that’s kind of trifling. I remember one year, this woman, I’ll call her Big momma for now, argued with me and forced me to join in the protest outside of a Wal-Mart because they were closed. “how am I gonna fix my dinner now that they’re closed! Isn’t this ridiculous?” I didn’t know what to say. I wanted to tell her to “No” and to shut up. I wanted to tell her that the world wouldn’t burst and that she wouldn’t die if she didn’t get her dinner items but I punked out and simply responded, “Yes Ma’am, this is crazy.” You can’t argue with Big momma.
Daily Insanity:
Dallas is shut down! How inept is a city when they can’t handle a few inches of snow and ice? I am kind of ashamed to be a resident. All of the preparation and planning, all of the talk and hype has been sidelined by a few flurries. Perhaps it will all work out. Maybe we will get the sunrays we need to melt the ice away. If not, there will be millions of people upset and hundreds of retailers out of millions of dollars in advertising.
Question
What things do you do on a snow day?
