Discoveries:
Today I discovered local area shops. When you grow up in a big city like Chicago you take small town charm for granted. Annual traditions like flying the flag, bake sales, the classic car show and walking around old downtown make the holiday that much more charming. The car show featured a ton of old muscle cars including some of my favorites (Pontiac GTO, Chevy Malibu, and Dodge Challenger). One car stole the show in my heart though. It was a 1989 VW Bus that was tricked out beyond belief. It had a stove, couch, canopy for shade and even a retractable roof that featured a bed. The owner spent time telling me about how he restored it and how much fun it was for him and his family to use on road trips. Also, the retail shops were filled with antiques and old furnishings. In one store I even saw a set of ABC blocks and old photos of the city from the 40’s. To top it all off, I had one of the most amazing slices of chocolate cake that I have had in a while for a midday dessert.
High Points:
Today my wife and I began our early morning exercise routine. Okay, let me be honest, we began the first of many iron man style workouts designed to kick our metabolism into gear. We figure that if we can align the healthiness of our body with the hale and heartiness of our minds and spirits we will look like we did back in college in no time. Grant it, that's is sort of a stretch goal being as though I am 50 pounds heavier now than I was freshman year. However, when you consider how I was six foot tall and a mere 175lbs light, my frame could actually embrace the extra pounds. Anyway, I digress. We were amped! We stretched, did aerobics, cardio and weight training thanks to a new set of dumbbells and a resistance band. Wish us luck. My goal is to get down to 200lbs and reduce body fat by 5%. My wife, in all her splendor, merely wants to stay in shape.

Low Points:
I fantasized about eating yet another IN-N-OUT burger. My word those delicious burgers are addictive. Imagine the onions, pickles, mayo, homemade bun, seasoned double beef and American cheese all harmonizing together on a bed of string fries to create a masterpiece for your belly. Top it off with a chocolate shake and that my friend is the best 2000 calories you will ever consume on a Monday afternoon. Perhaps I will breakdown and slide through the NEW location they just built by my house and sneak in a few bites on the low.

DAILY INSANITY:
Three Words: No More Fireworks
Ok, now I’m angry. How come no one thought enough of me to call me and tell me that this year Chicago will NOT host their annual fireworks show!!!! I was actually looking forward to watching it on WGN. Yes, WGN is a national channel and every now and again I will watch the news, catch a Cubs game or watch the St Patty’s Day parade of the Fireworks show. What a travesty! What will my fellow Chicagoans do now that the splendid brilliance of color will no longer explode in the sky? This is some repugnant garbage, bring back the fireworks! Bring back the fireworks! Chant with me,,,,BRING BACK THE FIREWORKS!

Nothing makes my toes curl like Key Lime Cheesecake! There's a restaurant called Flavor in Homewood-Flossmoor that makes it better than The Cheesecake Factory. The last time I went they ran out and I've been disappointed with cheap imitators ever since.
